Grasse Villa: A Luxurious Blend of Tradition and Innovation

Designed by Kuang Ming Chou, this award-winning villa combines Chinese culture with a modern, luxurious lifestyle.

Grasse Villa, a project that beautifully marries traditional Chinese culture with a modern, luxurious lifestyle, is the brainchild of renowned designer Kuang Ming Chou. This grand mansion, awarded the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, is a testament to the harmonious blend of culture, innovation, and design.

The inspiration for Grasse Villa came from the traditional Chinese mansions depicted in the classic novel, Dream of the Red Chamber. However, the design team, led by Kuang Ming Chou, sought to go beyond mere visual expression. They aimed to create a space that resonated with the sentiment of the oriental world, where the focus is on the feel of the space and the living utensils.

Grasse Villa is not just a living space; it is a mansion steeped in culture. The design team has managed to exhibit both contemporary and luxurious life in China, combining traditional and technical living styles. The villa is spacious and open, devoid of the usual separation of spaces by walls or bricks, making it a grand and comfortable mansion.

The unique properties of Grasse Villa lie in its use of materials and space planning. Marbles of various grains adorn the walls of different spaces, indicating their features, while brass frames link the different areas. The entry hall ceiling, made of gold mosaic tiles, and the high-ceiling living rooms trimmed in multi-levels, add to the grandeur of the mansion.

The design team faced the challenge of fitting a grand villa, built in the Art-Deco style, into the Chinese context. The exterior of the architecture couldn't be altered, so the focus was on interior design to meet the client's requirements and maintain harmony. The result is a mansion that is not just a shell for living, but a space that breathes culture and luxury.

Grasse Villa, located in Beijing, China, was a project that spanned from April 2017 to September 2018. The design team included Kuang Ming Chou as the Creative Director, Garvin Hung and Jing Zhao as Interior Designers, Mavis Huang and Boyuan Ling as FF&E Designers, and Vera Chu as the Lighting Designer.

The project is a testament to the power of design and innovation in creating spaces that not only serve a functional purpose but also tell a story and evoke a sense of culture and luxury. Grasse Villa stands as a shining example of the harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, a luxurious mansion that is deeply rooted in Chinese culture.
